Blackstone's Summer Analyst Program is 10-weeks in length and will provide participants broad exposure to the Firm. The Program offers Summer Analyst's various technical and soft skill training opportunities, the ability to network with professionals across all business units, and a chance to fully immerse themselves in the Blackstone culture.

Job Description:

Blackstone’s Insurance Solutions Group offers summer analysts the diverse opportunity to work with professional teams executing on both (i) private equity investments and strategic partnerships within the insurance sector and (ii) investment management and the delivery of Blackstone’s investment expertise and products to insurance companies.  Summer analysts at Blackstone have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of investing and can expect to be staffed on a number of transactions at once. Due to the relatively small size of the professional staff, summer analysts are expected to assume integral roles on deal teams. The Insurance Solutions team has opportunities in three different verticals – Asset Allocation, Partnership & Acquisitions, & Quant Strategy.

Responsibilities

Acquisitions & Partnerships:

Summer Analysts will be part of the Acquisitions & Partnerships team that evaluates and executes transaction opportunities within the insurance industry. Sources of capital for investment may range from specially dedicated funds (e.g. the acquisition of Allstate Life Insurance Company for $2.8bn in 2021) to capital deployed directly from Blackstone’s balance sheet (e.g. pre-IPO investment in AIG Life & Retirement for $2.2bn in 2021). Individuals will have the opportunity to draft investment memos, perform transaction due diligence, conduct industry research/analysis related to insurance sector transaction opportunities.

Asset Allocation:

Summer Analysts will work alongside the Asset Allocation team to partner with Blackstone’s business units to help construct tailored multi-asset product offerings for insurance company clients / strategic partners. Individuals will have the opportunity to draft investment memos and create presentation and marketing materials for potential and existing BIS clients. Throughout the program, the Summer Analyst will be expected to conduct industry research/analysis related to insurance and construct detailed financial models & valuation analyses.

Quant Strategy:

Summer Analysts will serve as quantitative strategists who work alongside the M&A and Asset Allocation teams. The BIS Quant Strategy team builds analytics for optimizing insurance company asset allocation, measuring and managing regulatory capital, evaluating and pricing deals, and conducting asset-liability management. The team takes a systematic, quantitative approach, with a goal of producing robust, transparent, commercially effective tools and analysis.

Requirements

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.

The successful candidate must have:

  • [AA/P&A] Prior investment banking, insurance, or asset management experience preferable
  • [AA/P&A] Strong accounting and financial modeling skills
  • [QS] Strong programming skills in any general purpose programming language (i.e., C++, C#, Java, Python)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work well in a lean team environment, often under pressure
  • Strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, good judgment, and positive attitude
